Local artist Tyler Pike is just back from a US tour of his new novel, Girl in the Air. He and Stephanie from OneSpace had originally planned a traditional book launch in Sydney, but Tyler decided that the community that has supported him like a family for so many years deserved more than just a few pages read aloud from Girl in the Air. Tyler has written a completely new short story for the Sydney community, and will be performing it live for you at OneSpace. He is collaborating in the project with electronic musician Gavin Angus-Leppan of highly acclaimed electronic music ensemble, Telemetry Orchestra. Gavin has produced a soundtrack for the storytelling event and will be performing it live together with Tyler.
This will be an unconventional evening, shorter than a movie but longer than a dinnertime rant, and it will appeal to anyone who loves a good story as well as anyone who loves live music.
Storytelling events offer an alternative to the traditional night out. Growing in popularity in the subcultures of London and New York, storytelling is a different experience as compared with comedy, live music, poetry slams, cinema or the theatre. A story performed by the author brings you back to the basic art underlying all modern entertainment, and puts you in touch with a practice that once was the only form of education and entertainment in the cultures of all of our ancestors.
You may laugh, you may shed a tear or be shocked or even scared, but we hope above all to entertain you and inspire you. Come prepared to relax among friends and good company, sit back or even lay down and enjoy an unconventional but thoroughly satisfying evening.
All profits from the event will be donated to Art2Healing in support of victims of child-sex trafficking (see more about this project below).
