Tamika Grant-Iramu’s ‘A Summer Storm’ is a new multi-façade mural on the Water Pump Station and substation at Upper Coomera, painted as part of The City of Gold Coast’s ‘Water Walls’ urban art project.
The artwork features Ocean Pandanus and Beauty Leaf Trees, flora that connect the ocean to the mainland which Tamika has realised through her signature relief-printing mark-making techniques. The intricate designs of these coastal trees are prominently displayed, inviting viewers to appreciate and connect with Queensland’s diverse coastal landscape.
‘A Summer Storm’ reflects the vibrant colours of Upper Coomera’s lush environment, inspired by the artist’s memory of a storm passing through the area while visiting her father’s home writing:
“As the sun emerged from the storm, the golden rays beamed off the leaves of the eucalyptus trees, the vibrant green colours contrasted with the stormy purple-grey sky that was moving away towards the coastline.”
Tamika would like to thank her painting assistants Renee Kire, Taneal Barber, Dean Grant-Iramu and John Stafford for their support and creative contribution.
