Elysha’s work, don’t lose yourself under the weight of another’s emotional unavailability, is currently on exhibition at the UniSQ Art Gallery until 2 October, alongside the work of artists selected for this significant celebration of contemporary Australian art.
Her featured work explores the intersection of emotion, connection and personal transformation. As Elysha describes: “This work is part nervous system, part emotion, part root system searching for ground through a web of connections that forced me to reflect on the patterns I kept attracting, and what it means to finally break them.”
Known for her meticulous hand-cut designs, Elysha Rei creates site-specific installations that weave together archival narratives, historical research, and cross-cultural identity. Her evolving practice continues to bridge cultural narratives and personal histories through the delicate yet powerful medium of paper—translating its intricacy and symbolism into both intimate and monumental forms.
The UniSQ Biennial Art Award celebrates and champions contemporary Australian art, bringing artists and audiences together through exhibition and engagement. The award encourages meaningful conversations around contemporary practice while creating opportunities for artists to build networks, connect with institutions and contribute to the cultural fabric of their communities.
