We are thrilled to see Brian Robinson & Tamika Grant-Iramu’s collaborative work ‘Carving Country, 2019-21’ featured in ARTNOW FNQ, a biennial exhibition at Cairns Art Gallery that showcases the best and most inspiring art being produced by emerging to established artists in Far North Queensland.
Selected as apart of 18 artists from more than 60 submissions curator Ellie Buttrose commented that the selected artists push the boundaries of contemporary arts practice across a range of mediums.
Writer Louise Martin-Chew describes this monumental work:
“(‘Carving Country’) portrays each artist’s familial stories, personal mythologies, and styles. These interact in the production of a ground-breaking large-scale linocut. Traditional hierarchies are stripped away to highlight the contrasts and similarities between two artists from different generations and backgrounds. Through exploring parallels and differences in their distinctive styles, Grant-Iramu and Robinson open themselves to innovative possibilities while continuing to work within the strength of their individual practices.”
ARTNOW FNQ 2022 is open to the public until 12 February 2023.
