Onespace Gallery is thrilled to announce that acclaimed artist Sebastian Di Mauro has been selected as one of the finalists for the prestigious Hadley’s Art Prize. This highly respected prize will be presented in Hobart from July 22 to August 20, 2023, showcasing the works of 30 contemporary Australian artists.
The judging panel for the 2023 edition includes highly respected figures in the art world, such as Wendy Sharpe, an acclaimed artist, Milan Milojevic, a celebrated Tasmanian artist, and Dr Fiona Foley, an artist, curator, writer, and Associate Professor at The University of Queensland. The panel has curated a diverse selection of works, encompassing various mediums ranging from oil, acrylic, and gouache to beeswax, natural ochre, dyes, weaving, crochet, aluminium, and steel.
Milan Milojevic expressed admiration for this year’s finalists, noting the strength and diversity of the exhibition. He highlighted the artists’ focus on historical and contemporary issues, particularly climate change, which manifests in captivating ways through their artworks. The Hadley’s Art Prize has become renowned for drawing artists from across Australia, providing audiences with a unique opportunity to connect with contemporary artists they may not typically encounter in Hobart.
Sebastian Di Mauro’s inclusion as a finalist in the Hadley’s Art Prize underscores his national prominence as an artist. With over 45 solo exhibitions and participation in more than 100 group exhibitions, Di Mauro has established himself as a significant figure in the Australian art scene. His paintings, sculptures, artist books, and installations have been collected by prestigious institutions, including the Queensland Art Gallery I Gallery of Modern Art, the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and the University of Queensland Art Museum.
