2023 Acquisition — Monash University Museum of Art

December 12, 2023

In July of 2022, Teho Ropeyarn presented “TRAVERSING THREE REALMS: The physical, natural and spiritual”, a stand-out display at NorthSite Art Centre, as a part of the Cairns Indigenous Arts Festival. Included within this exhibition was an iteration of Ayarra (rainy season), 2021, which was originally created for display in Tarnanthi at the Art Gallery of South Australia in 2021. The work reveals the cyclical relationship between water and land and shows the significance of the effects of seasons in the Cape York.

Representatives of Monash University Museum of Art had the pleasure of viewing Ropeyarn’s work at CIAF, and following this interaction, have confirmed Ayarra (rainy season), 2021 by Teho Ropeyarn will be welcomed into their collection.
