Jackie Ryan is a multi-award-winning Australian artist with an abiding interest in culture that connects her work across forms and genres. Her mantlepiece hosts two Queensland Literary Awards: the Queensland Premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance and the University of Southern Queensland History Award, an Aurealis Award, a Bronze Ledger Award and a Queensland Writing Fellowship; she’s also been shortlisted for The Courier-Mail People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award and the Russell Prize for Humour Writing. Her non-fiction book ‘We’ll Show the World: Expo 88’ (UQP) was published in 2018, and the websites for her multidisciplinary projects – ‘Burger Force’ and Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary (both of which have a strong visual art component)– have been preserved by the National Archives of Australia as sites of cultural significance. She holds a PhD in history and political science from The University of Queensland.
Jackie’s art for Burger Force and the Fanciful Fiction Auxiliary has been featured in separate solo exhibitions at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Select Burger Force artworks were also the subject of a solo exhibition at Redland Art Gallery. Her art has been included in group exhibitions for Onespace Gallery, Circle Work Gallery and the Trace Biennial Exhibition & Art Auction. Jackie has completed two Vibrant Laneways design commissions for the Brisbane City Council and has had work appear on the ABC’s Art Works. Her art is held in public and private collections.
