Born into a fourth-generation grain farming family in regional Victoria, Naomi McKenzie is an analogue photographer whose practice explores memory, place and the relationship between people and landscape. After studying photographic imaging and working in commercial photography and print media, she returned to film photography following the birth of her children, establishing a home darkroom in Toogoolawah, Queensland.
McKenzie’s recent exhibitions include Elements of Surprise, Ipswich Community Gallery (2026); The Show: The Growers, The Makers and the Jam Drop Bakers, The Condensery (2025); Elemental Reciprocity, Harvest Biennial: Volatile Terrain, The Condensery (2025); Australian Regional Photography Prize, NERAM (2025); New Light, Museum of Brisbane (2024); Perspective, Queensland Regional Art Awards Touring Exhibition (2024); Emerging Artist Exhibition, Judith Wright Arts Centre (2024); Where We Meet, OneSpace (2024); and her debut solo exhibition, Ex Tenebris Lux, The Condensery (2023).
Her work has been widely recognised including in the Ipswich Art Awards Photographic Prize (2025), the Queensland Regional Art Awards Emerging Artist Award (2023), Overall Second Prize at the Grasslands Art Prize (2024), and as a finalist selection for the Australian Regional Photography Prize (2025) and Ipswich Art Prize (2023).
