The National 4: Australian Art Now 2023 | Teho Ropeyarn

November 29, 2022

Teho Ropeyarn has announced his claim as one of Australia’s considerable artists with appearances in a number of recent major exhibitions.

We are now excited to congratulate Teho on the announcement of his inclusion in The National 4: Australian Art Now, opening early 2023. Held across four venues, Teho’s work will be exhibited at Carriageworks.

Described as ‘career-defining’ by directors Michael Brand, Blair French, and Suzanne Cotter, ‘The National 4: Australian Art Now’ is a highly anticipated celebration of contemporary Australian art. Ropeyarn’s inclusion in this iteration recognises him as a vital First Nations artistic voice, and presents him on a platform that fosters stronger relationships between leading curators, artists, institutions and publics.

The National is a partnership between four of Sydney’s leading cultural institutions: the Art Gallery of New South Wales; Campbelltown Arts Centre; Carriageworks; and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA Australia).

The 2023 edition of The National is curated by: Beatrice Gralton at the Art Gallery of NSW; Emily Rolfe at Campbelltown Arts Centre; Freja Carmichael and Aarna Fitzgerald Hanley at Carriageworks; and Jane Devery at the MCA Australia. The exhibition will be open to the public between 24 March – 23 July 2023.

Congratulations to all selected artists and their galleries, and the whole team behind ‘The National 4: Australian Art Now’. For more information and updates on The National visit the-national.com.au.
