Onespace is delighted to announce Place, as guest (state I) by Prita Tina Yeganeh has been acquired by the Artbank Australian Government art collection.
This is Prita’s first acquisition by Artbank, which holds one of the largest collections of contemporary Australian art in the world. With over 10,000 artworks reflecting the cultural diversity of artists around Australia, Artbank is one of the most representative art collections, held on behalf of the Australian public.
Place, as guest (state I) signals an exciting direction in printmaking for Prita, derived from her profound installation series, My Soil Farsh. Prita describes this series as a “process of storytelling through patternation and iconography, drawing on a visual language in which pattern carries knowledge across generations.” Within Iranian visual culture, each motif forms part of a system through which histories, beliefs, and relationships to place are transmitted. For Prita, printmaking allows this language to evolve through translating the relational ground of the Farsh into a durable form, where its stories can be held, read, and carried beyond the work itself. The soil used in these works were gathered from Quandamooka Country, reflecting an extended process of learning what it means to engage with place as a guest.
