Cairns Indigenous Art Fair 2024

25 - 28 July 2024
Our Gulayi

Onespace is proudly participating in the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) 2024. We congratulate our six exhibiting artists, Darren Blackman, Sonja Carmichael, Elisa Jane Carmichael, Tamika Grant-Iramu, Brian Robinson and, Teho Ropeyarn. We recognise CIAF’s commitment to strengthening and celebrating our First Nations culture.

The CIAF 2024 theme ‘Country Speaking’ provides an opportunity for Country to be heard, and CIAF Artistic Director Francoise Lane says: “CIAF’s 2024 theme will provide insight into what Country is speaking to its custodians.”

Our Booth (21) showcases several new works on paper that reflect this year’s theme, ‘Country Speaking’. Darren Blackman presents bold graphic text-based work that comments on government policy agendas. Sonja and ElisaJane Carmichael release new soft-ground etchings that embrace the creative archive of Quandamooka knowledge. Teho Ropeyarn focuses on water, land and sky and their significance to the people of Injinoo (Cape York), while Tamika Grant-Iramu’s hand-coloured Summer Haze series is inspired by the immediate naturalenvironment of the Townsville coastline and native Nora. Brian Robinson once again dazzles with exploration of the conceptual framework of Torres Strait Islander astronomy, referring to the Great Shark constellation. Onespace’s booth offers a diverse and vibrant opportunity for Country to be heard.

Onespace has had a longstanding relationship with the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair since 2015. Our participation in CIAF enriches our gallery’s cultural connections to our local represented artists, the art centres and arts organisations we partner with, and the collectors and curators from across the country who frequent CIAF each year to appreciate, engage and acquire the works from this internationally significant art fair.
